Questions
Yes. BUNK is free for both volunteers and hostels. Volunteers trade a few hours of help for a free bed instead of paying for accommodation, and hostels post opportunities at no cost.
Browse open opportunities, apply to a hostel with a short message, and wait to be accepted. When a hostel accepts your application it unlocks a private chat where you arrange the dates of your stay. In exchange for a few hours of agreed work each day, you sleep for free.
BUNK puts the actual sleeping spot front and centre. Every listing shows real photos and a description of exactly where you'll sleep, so there are no surprises on arrival. Reviews are public on both sides, building trust the way they do on Airbnb.
It varies by hostel — common roles include reception help, bar and kitchen support, housekeeping, social-media and content work, gardening, and running guest activities. Each listing lists its exact tasks, the hours per week, and the minimum stay.
After a stay, both the hostel and the volunteer leave a public review of each other — one review per side, per match. Reviews are visible on every public profile alongside a star average, so both sides build a verifiable reputation over time.
BUNK is for backpackers and travellers who want to stay longer and spend less by working a few hours a day, and for hostels that need flexible help in exchange for a bed. You choose your account type — volunteer or hostel — when you sign up.
